Bathroom tiling cost in Dublin: the short answer

Bathroom tiling in Dublin costs €45 to €90 a m² for the labour, or €250 to €380 a day for a tiler. Tanking the shower and wet areas adds €300 to €800. For a typical family bathroom tiled floor to ceiling, about 20 m², the labour comes to €900 to €1,800.

How much does a tiler charge per m² in Dublin?

€45 to €90 a m² for the labour. That's the tiler's work only: setting out, fixing, cutting and grouting. The tiles and the adhesive are separate.

Small, standard tiles in a straight lay sit at the low end. Large porcelain, a herringbone or diagonal pattern, and walls that are out of true push it up, because each takes more cutting and more time.

What does a tiler cost a day in Dublin?

€250 to €380 a day. A day rate is useful for small jobs: a splashback, a repair, a floor in a downstairs toilet.

TradeA day
Plumber€280 to €420
Tiler€250 to €380
Electrician€250 to €360
General builder or fitter€250 to €350

The plumber and electrician are on most bathroom jobs too, so a full renovation is priced as a whole: €9,000 to €18,000 for a family bathroom.

How much to tile a whole bathroom?

About €900 to €1,800 in labour for 20 m². That's a typical family bathroom tiled floor to ceiling, worked out at €45 to €90 a m².

Tiling only the shower and around the bath, and painting the rest, cuts the area by half or more.

Is tanking included in the tiling price?

Not always, so check. Tanking is the waterproof layer behind the tiles in the shower and on a wet-room floor. It's €300 to €800, and it has to dry before the tiles go on.

Grout and tiles aren't waterproof on their own. In a walk-in shower or a wet room, tanking is the part you can't see and can't skip.

Why tiling costs more in older Dublin houses

The walls need work first. In a pre-1970s house the old plaster may need to come off, and the walls and floor brought true or boarded, before a tile goes on. That's labour at the tiler's day rate, €250 to €380.
